ABOUT METrina S. Hearn, Esq.

Trina Hearn is a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit Civil Mediator, a Florida Qualified Arbitrator, and a trial lawyer. She serves parties and their counsel across Florida as a neutral and represents individuals and businesses in civil, personal injury, real estate, and business disputes. A national trial competition champion with many years of courtroom experience in both state and federal court, she brings the same disciplined judgment to mediation and arbitration that she brings to trial.

How I Help Clients

I am an experienced trial lawyer in both state and federal court, representing clients in a broad range of civil, real estate, health care, business, and commercial litigation matters. My work includes malpractice, negligence, fraud, contractual disputes, brokerage disputes, disclosure disputes, insurance disputes, and employment disputes, as well as criminal matters and personal injury cases involving auto accidents, wrongful death, premises liability, and defective products.

As a Florida Supreme Court Certified Circuit Civil Mediator and a Florida Qualified Arbitrator, I also serve as a neutral, helping parties and their counsel resolve disputes efficiently and on their own terms, whether through mediation or arbitration. Whether I am advocating for a client or serving as a neutral, my goal is the same: a clear assessment of the issues, candid guidance, and a practical path to resolution.

ExperienceLitigation and Dispute Resolution

I maintain an active litigation and dispute resolution practice. I have advocated in numerous criminal and civil trials and have handled countless mediations and arbitrations involving personal injury and other civil claims. I have handled every stage of a dispute, from pre-suit negotiation and discovery through mediation, motion practice, arbitration, trial, and appeal. That experience also allows me to counsel clients in drafting and reviewing contracts, releases, agreements, and other legal documents.

Before joining Hearn Law, I was a partner at the Bolin Law Group, where I practiced for twelve years and oversaw the firm’s premises liability and personal injury division.

Early Career and Trial Experience

After interning at the Federal Public Defender’s offices in Chicago and Tampa, I began my career at the Public Defender’s Office in the Sixth Judicial Circuit of Florida. There, I litigated hundreds of cases, ranging from misdemeanor driving offenses to felony violent offenses, and advocated in more than fifteen jury trials. On the strength of that trial record, I moved into civil practice as a trial lawyer handling premises liability and medical malpractice matters.

Teaching Trial Advocacy

In addition to practicing law, I have served as a Trial Advocacy Skills Instructor at Stetson University College of Law. Together with my husband and law partner, Colby Hearn, I coached Stetson’s nationally recognized Trial Team to a first-place finish in the Florida Justice Association’s Mock Trial Competition.

A Little About Me

I was born in Miami, Florida, and grew up in Norwich, Vermont, near Dartmouth College. As the oldest of four children, all close in age, I learned early how to hold my ground. My father, Murray Sams, Jr., a nationally renowned trial lawyer and a 2005 inductee into the Stetson University College of Law Hall of Fame, taught us the arts of preparation, persuasion, principled argument, and compelling advocacy. I have carried those lessons throughout my career and built on them in every courtroom and mediation since.

When not working for my clients, I enjoy cooking, baking, gardening, traveling, and spending time with my family.
